StormTest™ is a proven automatic Set-Top Box (STB) test and analysis system with a broad range of customers including Global Cable, Satellite and IPTV Operators, STB Manufacturers and Component and Infrastructure vendors in the Digital TV Value Chain.
To support the rapid growth opportunities for StormTest™ and other products and services in to the North American market, a vacancy has arisen for a Software Development Engineer within S3 Group’s TV Technology Business Line. The position will ideally be based in S3 Group’s office in San Jose, California, however other locations in North America will be considered for the right candidate. While formally reporting to the General Manager, North America, the position will take day-to-day direction from the StormTest™ Deployment Manager based in Ireland.
The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting technical wins in relation to existing and new customer accounts and must be able to understand, articulate and demonstrate the technology to technical users. This role requires the candidate to have a software development/engineering capability. They must be able to identify technical issues that arise during product evaluation and work both independently and with the S3 Group deployment support team to ensure that these issues get resolved during the evaluation in order to establish and maintain a strong relationship with the prospective customer. This will typically involve writing StormTest Python test scripts and helping prospective customer users to do the same. It will involve time on-site with the prospective customer to guide them through use of the product and ways of integrating it with their existing development and test processes. The role will also involve some explanation of the hardware components in the StormTest product.
Description:
The Software Development Engineer will be the technical liaison in all pre-sales technical activities between customers, the sales team, product management and engineering. The individual will be responsible for:
- Development and delivery of product demonstrations to customers
- Development of customer-relevant sample test scripts
- Providing development and test environment architecture advice
- Providing customer installation and integration support
- Responding to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs
- Representing S3 Group’s products and services to customers at field events such as conferences and seminars
Requirements:
- Proven capability in software scripting, e.g. Python, Perl etc.
- Proven capability in software development
- Proven experience of requirements and system architecture
- Willing to travel extensively throughout North America for up to 60% of their working time
- Proven experience in providing detailed technical support for a programmable software product would be highly desirable
- Knowledge of Digital TV systems including digital Set Top Boxes (STBs) would be desirable
- Some knowledge of hardware systems would be desirable, e.g. basic operation of PC Servers, IP Switches, MPEG4 Encoders etc.
- Knowledge of test and diagnostics best practices would be desirable
- University degree in information technology or electronic/computer engineering
- Ability to convey customer requirements to S3 Group Product Management teams
- Comfortable in the dynamic atmosphere of a technical organization with a rapidly expanding customer base
- Strong presentation skills and the ability to communicate professionally in written responses to emails, RFPs, and when submitting reports
- Strong customer orientation
- Strong conceptual, analytical and judgment abilities
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, exercise good judgment, strong commercial orientation and achieve results through others
