Many broadcasters have viewed the development of mobile TV with a combination of interest and caution. Large scale trials and industry events such as IBC Mobile Zone have hinted as to the potential of Mobile TV:however many broadcasters are yet to be convinced.

John Maguire, General Manager, Consumer Mobile at S3, outlines how mobile digital TV fits into the broadcast landscape and identifies key opportunities and challenges ahead.

Mobile TV is certainly of interest to many broadcasters despite the slow take-up seen to date. Broadcasters are very aware that the opportunitie to open up content delivery to mobile devices is a powerful tool in the constant battle to retain viewers and drive revenues through either subscription or advertising based business models. However many are unsure as to how this new technology will fit alongside their current operations.
