Low Power

The gap between battery technology and user requirements for portable computing continues to widen. Now also energy regulations and 'green' marketing are driving power reductions in mains powered applications.

IC designers are going to huge lengths in terms of architecting ICs with power consumption in mind, particularly at lower process nodes.  Techniques such as voltage islands are gaining wider acceptance.  Now adaption of power to the on-die IC process, temperature and voltage are also being applied.  However using these techniques can have a significant NRE, Time to Market and Risk impact to a program.
