S3 to launch onHandTV™ TSC software at 3GSM 2007
Barcelona, February 9th 2007 - Silicon & Software Systems Ltd. (S3), today launched its Transport Stream Controller (TSC) - the latest addition to S3's world leading onHandTV™ Mobile DTV client software products. Targeted at silicon manufacturers, the TSC dramatically reduces the time-to-market and development cost by abstracting complex DVB-H receiver control functions. NXP Semiconductors, the newly independent semiconductor company founded by Philips, and Infineon are two Tier 1 silicon manufacturers to benefit from using S3's TSC.
Speaking about the announcement, Kees Joosse, Senior Director of Business Development at NXP Semiconductors said "NXP have been working with S3 since 2004 delivering best-in-class solutions for the emerging TV-to-Mobile market. A key benefit to licensing S3's software is that it has enabled us to focus on innovation and performance improvement on the silicon side and offer our customers higher levels of functionality delivered by S3's TSC and the NXP BGT215".
The TSC provides application programmers with a simple interface that enables them to easily scan, tune and establish multiple IP flows required to view and manage TV, Electronic Service Guide (ESG) and data services. Key TSC features include DVB-H/T PSI/SI table management, transparent cell handover, Quality of Service (QoS) monitoring and complete control of the tuner and demodulator. The software has also proven interoperability with existing commercial networks in Europe and the US.
John Maguire, General Manager, Consumer Mobile, S3 said: "We recognize that our semiconductor clients are faced with a challenge to deliver a higher level of functionality in the software accompanying their silicon. By having TSC on their platform, they can dramatically reduce the time taken to integrate their solution into end products. This strategy is proving very successful as S3 has already succeeded in licensing the TSC to a number of Tier 1 silicon customers."
onHandTV™ delivers all of the key software required to rapidly deploy Mobile DTV devices compliant with emerging broadcast, multicast and unicast standards including DVB-H, TBDMB, DAP-IP, MBMS and 2.5 or 3G. S3's onHandTV guarantees interoperability with all of the existing commercial DVB-H networks and key technology suppliers in the mobile DTV ecosystem.
S3 is exhibiting its latest software solutions at 3GSM (12-15 February, Barcelona) at the Enterprise Ireland Pavilion, Hall 1, Booth 1F17.
