S3 Group has extensive experience in defining the concept and requirements for market leading products and services. We typically work with innovation teams that are building first of a kind products that involve significant market or technical risk, or represent an entry into the Telehealth market or a step change in technology compared to their organization’s previous products.
Our consultants have the specialist skills, industry expertise, system knowledge and depth of understanding to address the most difficult design challenges. These skills have been honed during our 20 years of development of breakthrough Telecommunications, Consumer Electronics, Medical, Wireless, and Telehealth products.
Concept phase:
A typical concept phase starts with a session where an S3 Group consultant supports an end user needs discovery and evaluation session with our clients. This helps to ensure that the subsequent product concept creates a relevant, compelling, patient-centric product or service that meets the end-user needs of patients, their carers, clinicians, and funding agencies.
We then work closely with our clients to support their product concept generation and roadmap generation activities, bringing our experience of end-users needs and the technical, clinical, and business aspects of Telehealth to bear.
Once a roadmap vision has been agreed, S3 Group can assist in the development of prototypes that can be used to test the market, supporting the refinement of the roadmap before full product development takes place.
Requirements Phase:
In this phase, we define the detailed product and service requirements for the chosen concept, ensure that a development process is in place that meets the product’s quality, time-to-market and regulatory requirements, and that the planning, hazard analysis and de-risking is in place to enable the product or service to pass through a development-start phase-gate milestone.
The requirements activities are typically performed at the client’s site in order to create an effective integrated product development team that leverages the expertise that our clients, S3 Group, and world-leading 3rd parties bring to bear during this critical phase.
The requirements deliverables for the first phases in a program are captured in language that is accessible to all key stakeholders, and detailed enough to ensure that there is a clear understanding as to the product that will be built.
In many cases, our consultants will also define the high level architecture of the product during this phase.
We believe that it is important to front load the program effort to produce a complete and traceable set of requirements and architecture documents since this provides the platform for an efficient Development phase, reduces risk, and supports the traceability and testability needed for medical device certification.
In addition to the product functionality description, the deliverables produced also address:
- Project planning and Costing
- Process, Regulatory and Quality Assurance
- Supply Chain Management
Third party members of the integrated product development team provide inputs on the User Interface design, Industrial design, Manufacturing, Delivery, Servicing, etc.
Typical engagements at this phase involve the provision of a team of domain experts from S3 Group who work full time on the Requirements, Architecture and Planning in co-operation with your Product Management, Marketing and Purchasing stakeholders and 3rd parties as required.
Our core work in this phase of development includes, but is not limited to:
- Detailed requirements gathering, planning, architecture and technical de-risking to enable the concept to pass the design start gate
- Assessment of the key technological aspects of implementation, including the overall risk and feasibility of the concept
- De-risking of the program in the pre-investment phase, to ensure the product/solution is the right one for the market and preparing the foundations for the subsequent phases. This includes helping to build solid business cases and support the stage gate review process
- Bringing domain expertise and knowledge to bear to further assist you in developing your concept and ensuring that it has the right fit for your customers’ needs
