ATSC Mobile TV prototype to force standards decision
The Problem A major Tier 1 mobile phone manufacturer wanted to try and ensure that the US ATSC standards body would adopt the OMA-BCAST standard for use in their own mobile TV specification. To this end they needed a rapid prototype demonstrating how such a system would meet the needs of the new standard.
S3 Group's Client Tier 1 Mobile Phone Manufacturer.
The Solution S3 Group ported our onHandTV® OMA-BCAST compliant middleware and applications to the Linux based portable media device and integrated it with prototype ATSC tuner/receiver hardware by developing the required Linux drivers.
The Outcome This prototype was tested against live mobile ATSC trial transmissions in the US as part of an exercise to demonstrate to the ATSC that it was a valid candidate for inclusion in the Standard.
