New Product Software System Integration
For S3 Group’s cable, satellite and IPTV operator clients as well as our STB manufacturer and middleware and conditional access vendor clients S3 Group provides system integration for new products. S3 Group brings a wealth of cross-platform knowledge and expertise in dealing with complex software problems related to specific digital television technologies such as SoCs, middleware, drivers and conditional access.
S3 Group treats the systems to be integrated as a number of layers each consisting of a number of components. Each subsystem consists of a number of components which are closely related and can be integrated and tested relatively independently. S3 Group’s new product software system integration activities include the follow processes which may run concurrently:
- Planning and Project Management – a team of people and a Project Manager are assigned to the integration program. All deliverables and goals are monitored closely to ensure accurate and timely execution of the programme
- Requirements Management and System Architecture – S3 Group ensures that all system tests are traceable back to the original requirements. Requirements are elicited, verified, tracked and validated as part of this process to ensure that no requirements are missed and to add granularity where it is required to ensure each requirement is testable
- Drivers and Operating System Preparation
- Component Acceptance Testing – the goal of component acceptance is to confirm that the functionality of a component is as originally agreed and specified before integration into a larger system. S3 Group performs all component acceptance tests for each component including;
- Inspection of component test plan
- Inspection of test report provided by the component supplier
- Inclusion in nightly build testing
- Problem resolution during test execution
- Problem tracking
- System Integration and Testing – S3 Group outlines a strategy for building the system in a structured way from components to subsystem and finally the full system. Integration testing ensures that the external component interfaces have been implemented as specified and that the product functions according to the specification
- Support and Maintenance – Once a product has been formally accepted by S3 Group’s client then S3 Group support and maintain that integrated system as required. S3 Group continues to investigate problems if they arise, indicates the parties required to solve problems and tests the solution before being deployed on the live platform
